Radar Coded Message (RCM) summaries are composites of high resolution CONUS NEXRAD reflectivity data that have been mapped to 10-km gridded resolution. This process loses some detail, but it still provides much finer resolution than previous Manually Digitized Radar (MDR) report-based maps. RCM reports also are provided every half-hour compared to the hourly frequency of previous MDR reports. Besides reflectivity, they also provide additional products that reflect the operational status and modes of the radar sites. They also can provide some additional information on the echoes, such as movement, tops, and associated severe weather. Recently, these data seem very incomplete with no data from many sites, so use these data cautiously.
