A Couple Important Definitions:

Precipitation:
 

• Any or all of the forms of water particles, whether liquid or solid, that fall from clouds and reach the ground.

Measurement:
 

• The amount of precipitation is usually expressed in units of liquid water depth (e.g., inches) that has fallen on a horizontal surface at a given point over a specified time interval.
• However, there are special cases, such as Hail, that you will soon learn about!
